Justin Light & The Midnighters
Forging their own path within the contemporary British blues scene, Justin Light & The Midnighters deliver honest, direct songs with minimal fuss and maximum impact. Their powerful three-piece line-up of guitar/vocals, bass and drums focuses on strong songwriting, sharp musicianship and authentic performance.
Justin writes, sings and plays about real-life experience, believing this approach stays true to the spirit of the blues while bringing something new to the genre. This is not to suggest any disregard for the classic blues catalogue; rather, it reflects a commitment to creating original music that stands on its own merits.
Following the release of a solo digital album and a full-band vinyl, CD and digital release, the group developed new material extensively on stage before entering the studio. Choosing a deliberately analogue approach, the band recorded live to tape, capturing the spontaneity, chemistry and energy of their performances. While the songs were carefully arranged, space remained for improvisation, ensuring each recording retained the character and unpredictability of a live performance.
The band have worked with Solid Entertainments at Blackpool Winter Gardens and appeared at HRH Blues events. Their music has received airplay on Cerys Matthews' BBC Radio 2 Blues Show, and they have been featured in Blues Matters magazine. Prior to forming The Midnighters, Justin recorded and performed at Abbey Road Studios, Reading Festival, Brixton Academy and Ronnie Scott's, appeared on BBC and MTV broadcasts, and toured in support of Anastacia and The Prodigy.
Live, the band blend diverse blues influences with classic rock energy to create a vibrant contemporary sound. Memorable hooks, thoughtful lyrics and dynamic improvisation combine to produce engaging performances that are powerful, focused and audience aware.
